Being a review site, though hopefully a refreshingly honest one, I of course looked at what other dating site reviews are out there.
In conclusion, bar the odd exception, they are all just basically dishonest and money grabbing! A bold statement! So I suppose I should back up that accusation with evidence.
Some of the sites below spend money on Google Ads. This would imply they are a business and want to make money out of their operation. Nothing wrong with that but does that mean they then review and rank to get the biggest return? You bet they do! And they even admit it in their “disclaimer”.
Dating site reviews – my findings
Let’s start with https://www.top10bestdatingsites.co.uk/
Their disclaimer is as follows:
In the 2nd sentence they admit their reviews and rankings are biased, based on how much money they can make from commissions!
Next is http://www.datingexperts.co.uk
At the bottom of http://www.datingexperts.co.uk/top it says:
Why Should I Believe You, That You Present the Best Sites Here?
Because your objectives and ours are the same.
YOU are looking for the most popular dating sites.
WE have the greatest benefit when presenting the most popular dating sites.
When YOU use the most popular dating sites, you have the best chances to find an attractive partner without risking to be scammed.
“When WE present EXACTLY THESE SITES to you, we earn commissions from them. That’s how we can offer this service for free while putting all our time and energy in. (Actually, we are not a charity. We are a dating site comparison business.)”
In short: The sites that work best for you are the ones that work best for us – namely the biggest and most powerful dating sites in GB.
They say ” your objectives and ours are the same” and then go on to say “Actually, we are not a charity. We are a dating site comparison business” – make of that contradiction what you will.
It is less clear from this whether they’re rankings are effected by how much they receive as commission. Despite being a .co.uk website it appears that the company behind it actually based in Germany and emails can be sent to www.digital-reviews.de. Not a problem I guess as the Internet, and indeed dating is a global thing. But what “expert” knowledge would they have of “British” dating sites?
Now onto https://top5-datingsites.co.uk/
Their disclaimer at the bottom of the home page states:
This website is an independent comparison site that aims to help consumers find the most suitable product for their needs. We are able to maintain a free, high-quality service by charging an advertising fee to featured brands whenever a user completes a purchase. These advertising fees might impact the placement of the brands on this page and combined with the conversion rates might impact the scoring as well which are further based on a combination of review findings, user experience and product popularity…….
……… We make best effort to present up-to-date information; however, we do not compare or include all service providers in the market. .
They say they get an “advertising fee” if you join a site having clicked through from their links. It’s actually a commission – pedantic maybe, but a fact! And again they say this “fee” effects how they rank sites – in short, the bigger the return the higher the ranking!
It also looks suspiciously like https://www.top10bestdatingsites.co.uk/ that I mentioned further up the page.
These are just three examples of dodgy rankings and reviews. There are plenty more.
You could say I’m being hypocritical as I have advertising on this site and I do get commissions from some of my links. However I would say that I am NOT influenced at all by the level of these commissions as to what sites I link to. IO am not ranking these sites for gain. I tell you what it’s been like on the sites and am honest about what I think of them. I do not say they are all great – most are pretty poor in fact.
